Six Youngstown State University students will get some help with their tuition expenses this fall after accepting $1,000 scholarships awarded by the Italian Heritage Foundation of Youngstown.

Six Youngstown State University students have been named to the inaugural class of recipients for the YSU Foundation Trustee Scholarship, a newly endowed scholarship funded by philanthropic gifts from foundation trustees.

Degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

Four Youngstown State University student artists recently unveiled a large mural they designed and painted for the West entrance of Southwoods Medical Building in Boardman, Ohio. Their design includes aspects of local history and architecture, medical elements and the Southwoods logo.

Youngstown State University senior Elizabeth Urig of Canfield, Ohio, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary. Urig, an applied mathematics and mechanical engineering major, is one of only 50 students nationwide to receive the award. She will be studying advanced mathematics in Budapest for the Fall 2017 semester through the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics program. Selection is based on an applicant's academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to academic preparation and career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation, and acceptance into a study abroad program. Phi Kappa Phi is the the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. In the 2016-17 academic year, 235 John Carroll University student athletes achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Thirty-six Counseling students at Youngstown State University were inducted recently into the Eta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota International, an honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in the counseling profession.

Ten Youngstown State University were awarded paid internships under the 2017 Nonprofit Leadership Summer Honors Internship Program, thanks to a $65,000 grant that the Raymond John Wean Foundation awarded to the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at YSU's Williamson College of Business Administration. The program offers full-time, 12-week paid internships for qualified YSU students with career-related work experience in a nonprofit or public sector organization. The internship program runs May 15 to Aug. 4. This is fourth time YSU has offered the internships.

Eleven Youngstown State University students received Master's of Accountancy degrees at YSU's Spring Commencement on May 6, the first class to complete the university's new graduate level accounting degree .

More than 200 Youngstown State University students received awards and accolades for their leadership and campus involvement at the annual Student Awards Banquet. The event was April 20 on campus and was sponsored by YSU Student Government, Student Experience and Student Activities.
